Visitors to Brela are consistently amazed at the resort's sheer natural beauty, where pine forests sweep right down to the six-kilometre long shoreline, the longest and loveliest in Dalmatia, with near unbroken golden pebble beaches. The old and new parts of the town, Gornja Brela and Donja Brela, blend harmoniously into the surroundings. Brela, with a population of about 2,000, is both a modern tourist resort and an old town rich in tradition. It was first mentioned in writing in 10th century, by the Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII, and Roman ruins date back hundreds of years before that.
