Skiathos Town

Skiathos Town is possibly the most popular resort on the island and has a fun, boisterous atmosphere. Rambling over two hills, the views across the harbour and turquoise waters are glorious. There are two ports - a commercial one in regular use today, and an older one used only by locals. The latter is a wonderful place to wander during the day - you can watch little fishing boats sailing in, heavy with fresh fish. White-washed houses iced with terracotta roofs spill down the gentle slopes of the town towards the waterfront. The western side is older with tiny streets, traditional architecture and simple balconies brimming with bright purple bougainvillea and sweet jasmine. The newer part of town offers an array of amenities designed to make your stay as convenient and entertaining as possible, including shops, restaurants, bars and banks. A good bus service runs to the beaches on the south coast of the island, and car hire is available. In high season, when the resort can get humid and dusty, take a water taxi.
